Sump Pump Repair or Replacement

Some homes in our area have basements, and they likely have a sump pump. Sump pumps are very important to keep water from accumulating around a home foundation or inside a basement area. Some indications your sump pump isn’t working correctly include:

• Visible water on the basement floor
• A damp odor or signs of mildew
• Noises whenever the sump pump runs (a motor sound is normal)

You can test whether your sump pump is working correctly:

• Find your sump pump in your basement or utility room. There is normally a plastic cover with piping running from the sump to outdoors and an electric wire to power the pump.
• If the sump is full of water, first try unplugging the sump pump and plugging it back in. Also, make sure electric breakers aren’t tripped
• Remove the cover and pour water into the sump from a bucket if the sump is empty. The pump should come on and remove most of the water. Each time you add water the sump pump should run.
