Signs of Hidden Water Leaks
Water, you can’t live with it and you can’t live without it. In terms of the former, we’re talking about when water begins to become problematic than helpful. When a property has a water league, often the owner may not consider it to be that big of a threat. What’s a small drip going to do anyway? But a small leak is just as bad as a big one and can spell out some major trouble down the line. Not only that, but the trouble can be costly. Here’s how you can spot the sometimes-subtle signs of a water leak in your property.
Bigger Water Bills
If you have lived in a property for quite some time and have been paying the water bills for the extent of that stay, by now you show know what the average cost will look like when that bill comes in. If you’ve had a lifestyle change such as a new person moving in or maybe you filled up the pool that month, you might notice a change in the bill. But if there hasn’t been such a change in your life, that could spell some trouble. When there’s an unexplained increase in your water bill, that means that there could be a leak somewhere with water slowly or quickly tickling out.
New Mold and Growing Mildew
Whether it’s a shower or a sink, there’s a difference between naturally occurring stains that happen from regular use versus mold and mildew. And the location especially matters. When you find especially moist patches on the walls and in the corners, that’s a place for mold and mildew to grow. But on top of that, there must be a source and that source is most likely a leak. Even if it’s not a leak from a pipe, you may have a roof leak or something similar. Either way, a leak is bad.
Ceiling Damage
One big tell-tale sign of a leak is wet patches on the ceiling or general ceiling damage. This could be from a pipe but if you must be on the upper floors, this could mean that your roof is leaking and needs repair. Use ceiling damage as a sign to start looking for where the leak is emanating from.
Cracks in The Foundation
Cracks aren’t normal, especially when they’re in your foundation. A crack means that there is water seeping in and expanding the foundation to the point that cracks are occurring. This is when the leak needs to be taken care of as soon as possible as foundation repairs can be costly. With a crumbling foundation, other problems can occur with your property as well.
