Do Clogs Keep Happening?
Clogged drains happen…it seems inevitable. Not only is a clogged drain an inhibitor of routine water usage in our homes, but it could also cause a great deal of damage. The culprits responsible for recurring clogs must be addressed in order to prevent further plumbing problems down the road. Ryan’s Plumbing offers a list of circumstances below that are responsible for causing recurring clogs.
Not So Squeaky Clean
It seems contradictory that soap and cleaning detergents actually contain grease and oily substances. Grease buildup in the sewer lines produces a major block in regard to proper water drainage. Remnants of soap are responsible for ever-growing soap scum. Bar soaps, in particular, are prime culprits causing this problem. Accumulation of scum over time in the piping system ultimately leads to clogging.
Scraps Happen
Garbage disposal is perfect for discarding all scraps of food, right? Fatty foods are a no-no when it comes to garbage disposal. They take a longer amount of time to decompose than other types of foods. These scraps harden in the drainage mechanism and prevent water from flowing through the system. Although also tempting, fruit peels and eggshells should not be tossed into the garbage disposal, either. A procedure called drain-snaking works well for unclogging kitchen sinks.
Wash it Off…Outside
The shedding of dirt and debris in the shower or bathtub is another common cause of recurring clogs. Tiny fragments of stones and the consistency of mud obstruct sewer lines and wreak havoc on the exterior of pipes. If possible, wash the grime off outdoors to prevent the occurrence of blockages.
The Root of the Problem
When tree roots invade the plumbing system recurring clogs can become neverending nightmares. The roots find their ways in through tiny cracks and/or leaks within the system. Water drainage becoming compromised by these tree roots is among the significant causes of recurring clogs. Trees with shallow roots pose fewer potential problems than their deeper-grounded counterparts. Excavation or trenchless repair are usual procedures to remedy this dilemma.
